SEO = Search Engine Optimization
Still confused? You are not alone. Many people understand that SEO essentially means getting more traffic on your website, but not many fully understand how this works. Search engines are pretty straight forward. The top three search engines are Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Most everyone has heard of these. Now optimization is the more difficult concept to grasp. To fully understand optimization, it is important to note there are two types of SEO; On-Page and Off-Page.
On-Page SEO relates to the following:
Page Quality - Keywords and Images relevant to the content on each page.
Page Structure - Alt Text, Alt Tags, Meta Descriptions and Header Tags. These are all items that relate to what people see in search engines when your listing is visible.
URL Structure - the organization of your web pages and how easy it is for a search engine to “crawl” through your website
Internal Linking - Linking from one section of your website to another
Page Performance - Page load time, mobile friendly, and responsiveness
If any of these On-Page SEO items aren’t optimized, search engines and end users may not view your website as favorable and may choose to visit your competitor's website.
Off-Page SEO relates to the following:
Backlinks - Connecting social media channels to your webpage, review and directory sites, submitting blogs to other industry websites.
Domain Authority - How long you’ve had your domain name, how many referrals from other domains, has the domain always complied with SEO best practices.
Why is SEO so important?
The majority of websites are found through search engines and organic traffic. Ensuring you comply with On-Page and Off-Page SEO best practices will help your potential customers find you.
